Children's Lessons - Term Time Classes
Which lesson is best for my child? One to One Lessons: For absolute beginners and younger children (3-4 years) 1:1 (private) Lessons are usually the best option.
These offer an individual approach to suit your child's confidence and ability, helping your child progress quickly, while learning at their own pace. The teacher will be able to focus solely on your child and for children who are nervous in the water the reassurance and support of having their own teacher can make all the difference. Two to One Lessons are perfect for those children who have progressed enough to share a lesson with another child. Children are usually ready to share a lesson once they are happy in the water, comfortable with wearing goggles and jumping in from the side and able to swim a short distance unaided.
![]() We take care to match children of similar age and ability to ensure that they get the most out of their lessons together.
If your child enjoys a bit of competition this could be the lesson for them! Children have the opportunity to learn at their own pace and we work hard to match our teaching style to their learning style to ensure they learn effectively and fast. We assess each child 3 times a term against our award scheme to monitor their progress and they receive a certificate at the end of the academic year so they can see their progress for themselves.

Once your child has mastered the three main strokes they can move on to our squad sessions for more advanced swimmers...
Squad sessions are part coaching, part teaching group lessons in which the children are taught how to swim far and fast! Working in their own dedicated lane children can refine their technique while working on speed and fitness and practice tumble turns and diving and butterfly. By keeping the numbers in each squad small we are still able to deliver the technical advice that can be missed in larger squad classes. Some children join our squads to develop the skills and speed for Club swimming or to qualify for their school swim team but others simply want to keep up a skill that they enjoy! We offer 30 minute weekday squads for children aged 7 - 12 years between 4.00 - 6.00pm every day and Saturdays at 9.00am. Paul also runs an advanced 1 hour programme (for children aged 7 - 17 years) on Sunday mornings from 7.30-8.30am. |
How do I enrol?
Our term time lessons are very oversubscribed.
We’re currently running off a waiting list with priority for members of the UCS Active gym and children attending the UCS Pre-Prep and Junior School.
